What do you do with a box of "Oats so Simple", Golden Syrup flavour, that your kids insisted you buy but subsequently, after having had one packet each, they decide they don't actually like? You incorporate them into a recipe, that's what!
Apple Crumble with Golden Syrup & Oats
Serves 4-6 people
Ingredients
150g butter, cut into chunks
250g plain flour
2 x sachets of "Oat So Simple" Golden Syrup flavour (72g)
2 x large cooking apples
1tbsp golden syrup
30g sugar
3tbsp water
juice of 1/2 lemon (optional, stops the apples turning brown)
Method
- Pre-heat the oven to 180°C / 356F / Gas Mark 4.
- Put the butter and flour in a food processor and whizz until it starts to clump together.
- Add 15g of the sugar and the golden syrup oats. Mix together.
- Peel, core and finely slice the apples.
- In an ovenproof dish, toss the appples in the water and lemon juice. Sprinkle with the remaining sugar and drizzle over the golden syrup.
- Cover with the crumble mix and press down gently.
- Place in the oven and cook for 45 minutes or until the apples are soft and the crumble golden brown.
- Serve with ice-cream or custard!
