Shetland Lace Triangle - Fail

 I tried to designing and knitting my own Shetland triangle shawl using the tips and stitch patterns from Heirloom Knitting
First I knitted a triangle starting from the base and decreasing one stitch at the beginning of each row. When only 3 stitches remained, I cast off. I then knitted on the Doris edging.

I am not very happy with the result... I love the yarn and the stitch patterns but I think I should have used a narrower border because Doris is too wide and doesn't turn the corners well. 
When I blocked it I also noticed I'd made a mistake in the bead stitch pattern...you can see it in the photo above. It sticks out like a sore thumb!
I think this would work better as a sideways knitted shawl.....
