I struggled a little to think of what to write - nothing profound came to mind :-P
I wondered if my town, Walton-on-Thames is famous for anything. I did a little bit of research and found that a local pub is famous for accommodating a well know song writer... some time ago.
The Swan, The Composer, the Landlord's Daughter
Back in 1910, Jerome Kern, the American composer, was on a boating trip along the Thames when he stopped for a drink at the Swan Inn and immediately fell in love with the Landlord's daughter, Eva. They were married and took rooms at the Inn where it is purported that Kern wrote some of his most famous pieces, Ol Man River, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and a lot more besides including Showboat.
Apparently they had a long and happy marriage.
So I have learnt something new about where I live and about the pub I sometimes drink in.
I went for a walk along the Thames in Walton and took a few pictures. It was quite a miserable day, so they are not the best!
