Apple and blackberry crumble must be one of everybody's favourites? Especially when it's home made with your own, hand picked blackberries.
I picked some today from my garden and also my neighbours to make a crumble.
Apple & Blackberry Crumble
Serves 6
Ingredients
300g plain flour
150g butter, cut into small chunks
50g sugar
200g black berries, rinsed
2 large cooking apples (I used Bramley)
lemon juice
3 tablespoons water
300g plain flour
150g butter, cut into small chunks
50g sugar
200g black berries, rinsed
2 large cooking apples (I used Bramley)
lemon juice
3 tablespoons water
Method:
· Pre-heat the oven to 180°C / 356F / Gas Mark 4.
· Peel, quarter and slice the apples and place in an oven proof dish. Sprinkle with lemon juice and pour over the water. With a spoon, turn the apples slices to ensure they are coated with the water and lemon juice to help prevent them turning brown.
· Add the blackberries and sprinkle the fruit with half the sugar.
· In a mixer, add the butter and flour and whizz until crumbs form. Alternatively you can rub the flour and butter together by hand. Add the remaining sugar.
· Pour the crumb mixture over the top of the fruit and press down gently.
· Place in the oven and cook for 45 minutes.
· Serve hot or cold with ice cream, custard or cream.
The Guradian has a nice little article about blackberries.
