Posh Sock Challenge - Sock Blockers

In the past I've considered sock blockers to be a bit pointless and a waste of money. But since beginning the Posh Sock Challenge I started to change my mind. I see a lot of people using them and they seem to have more than one purpose. Principally they are used to block the finished socks but they are also a great photography prop, especially if you struggle to photograph your own feet. I think they really give the sock a "finished" look. Additionally, sock blockers are useful while you are knitting your socks - slip them on the blocker to inspect for mistakes, check your progress or just to admire your handy work!
So, as you can probably guess from the photo, I finally succumbed and purchased a pair. While perusing the web, I was shocked at how expensive they are. I thought that Etsy would probably be the best place or maybe even Folksy or Dawanda but they were either too expensive (I set myself a budget of £15) or only available from the US ...once you've added international shipping and possible customs charges they were coming out above my price limit.
Eventually I found some that are hand made in the UK and come in 3 sizes (I purchased the large size). Best of all they came in below budget at £11.25 with free shipping! And to make me even happier, they arrived just 2 days after I had ordered them! I'm very pleased with my sock blockers and I'm considering getting the medium size too.
The website for the sock blocker is Whorl Drop Spindle ...a business run by Kevin Rhodes in Lancashire.

  2. Knitting socks is quite addictive! You feel ever so pleased with yourself when you see the finished item. And once you've worn a beautiful pair of handmade socks it's difficult to put anything else on your feet :-)
