Well, I have never been married so I have put a different spin on the phrase "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.... and related it to some of my jewellery.
As a costume jewellery designer I have accumulated and acquired quite a bit of jewellery. I have eclectic tastes...I collect both fine and costume jewellery.
Something Old
The carved ivory pendant and earrings belonged to my Nan. Obviously, I would never buy ivory these days due to the ethical implications. She bought them a long time before I was even born. Because she died more than 15 years ago and these are all I have of hers, I would feel bad about getting rid of them.
The large silver pendant is in the art deco style with marcasite, chalcedony and a large onyx disc. Although not an original piece from the 1920s, I love its big and bold styling.
Something New
I often purchase samples of products that I have developed. The asymmetric crystal ring is part of the Cristalina collection.
While I'm researching for projects, it's not unusual for me to buy things that I come across that appeal to me. Totally kitsch for sure but also ever so cute, I adore this crystal rabbit ring.
Something Borrowed
I recently worked on my company's stand at the jewellery show at the Birmingham NEC. We all had to "model" our branded jewellery, every day wearing different pieces. On one day I chose to wear this leather bracelet with an initial charm. This is part of a new Danish designed collection we are launching called Blossom.
The jewellery we wore was all on loan of course...but I have rather fallen in love with this cute little bracelet and I think I may have to instigate a staff sale.... perhaps it won't remain borrowed for much longer!
Something Blue
I have a fondness for Taxco jewellery... I especially like some of the more contemporary designs, such as this chunky silver and larimar bangle and ring above. The larimar is a softer blue than turquoise.
This set is an all time favourite of mine, and I get a lot of compliments and comments when I wear it.
