It started on a Friday... or more precisely, with a Friday. A Friday pair of socks in a gorgeous blue and a pretty twisted stitch pattern from Hunter Hammerson, called "Dianthus Superbus".
Not one for monogamy (when it comes to knitting, at least), I then I joined a test knit, to knit Qianer Huang's "Tulip" sock pattern. I wanted to knit them in some Posh yarn so that I could also use them in the Posh Sock Challenge.
Unfortunately, the Posh yarn I'd chosen (Pamela) just didn't look good on the required needles (2.5mm) making a horrible, loose and flimsy fabric. So I tried a few other 4ply yarns but nothing looked good. In the end I had to go for a much thicker yarn - a DK fine merino from Pickles in a beautiful red/orange colour named "Watermelon". This had been sitting in my stash for some time so I was feeling quite pleased with myself for finding a way to use it up.
I knitted away happily, following the charted pattern and then, not following it very closely, especially at row 12 where the pattern staggers one stitch across. I carried on knitting in my own merry way not realising that I shouldn't be matching up the pattern as you do up unitl row 12. Damn it...usually I would just carry on, who would know?! But this was a test knit... I had to do it just right. However, I did really like the way my "incorrect" socks were looking...and with DK yarn on 2.5mm needles they were knitting up pretty fast. I decided to finish them and then start the test knit again.
By this point I had realised that Friday's "Dianthus Superbus" were not going to plan...because of all the twisted stitches, the socks had no stretch what-so-ever which meant I couldn't get them on my foot. I had to resign myself to the fact that these were destined for the frog pool.
But, this could give me another oppurtunity to knit kill two birds with one stone - do the test knit in Posh yarn and enter them into the draw.
I set about searching destashes for a Posh sock yarn that is a bit thicker than the standard 4ply...Sadie Sock seemed to fit the bill.
Soon, thanks to a kind Ravelry member, I had some lovely blue yarn, "Tears of a Clown"...Friday's test socks are well on the way!
To be continued...
